Estimate student and postgraduate loan repayments using the 2026/27 UK thresholds.
Annualised estimate for 2026/27. Payroll deductions are calculated for each pay period and rounded under HMRC rules, so payslip amounts can differ slightly.
How to use the Student Loan Repayment Calculator UK
Enter gross annual income, select the undergraduate repayment plan and confirm whether you also have a Postgraduate Loan. The calculator estimates annual and monthly deductions using the 2026/27 thresholds.
Student loan thresholds for 2026/27
| Loan plan | Annual threshold | Repayment rate above threshold |
|---|---|---|
| Plan 1 | £26,900 | 9% |
| Plan 2 | £29,385 | 9% |
| Plan 4 | £33,795 | 9% |
| Plan 5 | £25,000 | 9% |
| Postgraduate Loan | £21,000 | 6% |
How repayments are calculated
You repay a percentage only on income above the relevant threshold, not on your full salary. GOV.UK confirms the 2026/27 annual thresholds and the 9% rate for Plans 1, 2, 4 and 5. Check the official student loan deduction guidance for current payroll rules.
Having an undergraduate and Postgraduate Loan
If both apply, the calculator adds the undergraduate deduction at 9% above its plan threshold and the postgraduate deduction at 6% above £21,000. You do not normally repay two separate undergraduate plans through the same payroll at the same time.
Why a payslip may show a different figure
Employers calculate deductions using earnings and thresholds for each weekly or monthly pay period. Bonuses and variable pay can therefore change a particular month’s deduction. This annual estimate does not use your outstanding loan balance or interest rate.
