Enter one room’s dimensions to estimate flooring packs, wall paint, wallpaper rolls, plasterboard sheets and skirting board for a UK home improvement project.
Room and product details
Estimated materials
Whole packs, rolls and sheets are rounded up. Linear and liquid quantities include the selected waste allowance.
How the home materials estimate works
The floor area is room length multiplied by width. Gross wall area is the room perimeter multiplied by height, with the entered door and window area deducted for paint and plasterboard. Skirting uses the room perimeter minus total door width. The selected waste allowance is added before pack, sheet and roll rounding.
Wallpaper calculation
The calculator estimates the number of full-height drops required around the room. It adds 10 cm trimming allowance to the room height, then rounds each drop up to the pattern repeat where one is entered. Rolls are based on the entered roll width and length. Openings are not deducted because offcuts may not replace full pattern-matched drops.
Default product assumptions
| Product | Default |
|---|---|
| Flooring pack | 2.2 m² |
| Wall/ceiling paint | 10 m² per litre per coat |
| Plasterboard | 2.4 × 1.2 m = 2.88 m² |
| Wallpaper roll | 0.53 m × 10 m |
| Waste | 10% |
Replace these defaults with the exact specification shown on the product you intend to buy.

Frequently asked questions
How much extra flooring should I order?
Ten per cent is a common starting allowance for cuts and offcuts, but complicated layouts may need more.
Why are doors and windows not deducted from wallpaper?
Wallpaper is ordered by full-height drops, and pieces cut around openings may not be reusable because of pattern matching.
Does the paint result include the ceiling?
Wall and ceiling paint are shown separately so you can choose different products.
Can I calculate several rooms?
Calculate each room separately and add the rounded purchasing quantities where the same product and batch will be used.
Are these exact shopping quantities?
No. Always confirm pack coverage, roll size, pattern repeat and supplier guidance before ordering.
